Dan McGarvey is an Associate Professor in the Center for Environmental Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. His research program is exceptionally broad, including stream ecology, fisheries science, community and ecosystem ecology, biogeography, macroecology, environmental law, and science communication. His technical work is particularly focused on emergent patterns within freshwater communities, such as network structure and community size-spectra. But in recent years, his passion has evolved towards visual science communication and making freshwater science a more diverse and inclusive profession.
